Abstract
Politics and Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) are two inseparable elements. Nowadays, many pesantren leaders actively participate in practical politics. The involvement of santri (students) and pesantren figures in politics is not only evident in contemporary Indonesia but also traces back to the efforts of kyai (Islamic scholars) and santri in fighting for Indonesia's independence. This paper provides data and insights into the relationship between santri, kyai, and pesantren in the political arena. Kyai, regarded as highly charismatic figures, have a significant influence in society, facilitating their path to power. This paper highlights the story of a local Tuan Guru from Central Lombok, TGH. Ahmad Taqiuddin Mansur, who has successfully entered the political scene. His charisma and the trust he has garnered from the community have propelled him into politics, making him a notable figure from the pesantren environment who serves as an example for the younger generation to engage in politics.
